Is buying a Samsung smart TV worth it?
What operating system do Samsung smart TVs use?
What’s more, you can even give voice commands to your television. The fact that Samsung has total control over its hardware and software gives them a lot of advantages. They can, for instance, tailor user experience to your needs and introduce new features in a faster and more flexible way.
What is the QLED technology of Samsung TVs?
QLED screens allow individual pixel activation, leading to better contrast, higher brightness levels, better viewing angles, and more color volume. Today, their main disadvantage over OLED technology is that they still cannot recreate reach pure black since they need an external light source.
What types of Samsung smart TV are there?
|LED LCD TVs||QLED|
|Price||They are more affordable. These models tend to offer the best value for money.||They are more expensive.|
|Screen lighting||LED TVs illuminate the colored pixels from the back using white diodes.||The pixels create their own light. This means that the brightness of each pixel can be controlled independently.|
|Black and dark colors||Dark and pure blacks are almost impossible to reach with this technology.||You’ll get purer blacks. The contrasts are also much better.|
|Viewing angle||This will vary a lot depending on the visualization technology used.||They generally offer perfect viewing angles.|
What is the High Dynamic Range?
That way, you can enjoy every scene in greater detail, with a wider range of colors and in a way that is truer to the human eye. Nowadays, two main standards have prevailed on the market: Dolby Vision and HDR10 (and HDR10+). Note that the latter is currently the most frequently used, as it has more accessible requirements and is open.
Should I buy a Samsung smart TV with a curved screen?
In fact, some experts are already anticipating its disappearance in the near future. You should also keep in mind that any potential repair will come at a much higher price. Ultimately, the decision to opt for a curved TV or not is entirely yours. Our advice, however, is to opt for another type of Samsung smart TV.
There are a series of critical factors that you’ll need to evaluate when buying your very own Samsung smart TV. To make this task easier for you, we’ve selected the ones we feel are truly essential and detailed them in the section below. We hope that they’ll allow you to opt for the Samsung smart TV that is most compatible with your tastes and needs.
- Screen size
- Type of screen
- Refresh rate
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- Light intensity
- Connectivity and ports
Your first instinct may very well be to simply buy the largest possible screen that your budget allows. And this could be a good option if you have a huge living room. However, you should keep the viewing distance in mind if that’s not the case. An excessively large screen could be harmful to you if your room isn’t big enough.
As a matter of fact, Samsung recommends specific screen sizes for different viewing distances. We’ve listed them in the table below to help you make your decision. If you like to have a rule of thumb to go by, remember that the further you are from the screen, the larger your screen should be.
|Viewing distance (in meters)||Screen size recommended by Samsung (in inches)|
Type of screen
As you now know, Samsung offers two different types of screens: LCD and QLED. We explained earlier that QLED technology offered superior image quality and a number of useful features. Ambient Mode, for instance, allows you to recreate decorative patterns of your home when it is turned off. This naturally means that these models are more expensive.
Until very recently, there were two main options when it came to screen resolution: Full HD 1.080p and 4K. However, the recent development and marketing of the first 8K TVs mean you have one more option on hand. Samsung naturally offers TVs with 8K resolution, such as the QLED Q900R 75″.
In fact, it was the very first brand to market a TV model with this resolution. However, you should keep in mind that there is currently very little content compatible with 4K, therefore even less 8K. Still, 8K resolution images offer a greater sense of realism, even with content that is not in 8K.
The refresh rate — or update frequency — refers to the number of times that the image is refreshed every second, using the hertz (Hz) as a unit of measure. A higher refresh rate means a better image quality. The standard was 60 Hz until recently. This has now evolved, and you have access to TVs reaching up to 1,000 Hz.
That being said, you should know that the highest refresh rates rarely exceed 120 or 240 Hz. In that regard, we encourage you to opt for a model with at least 120 Hz. This will give you much smoother images than lower TVs.
High Dynamic Range (HDR)
The High Dynamic Range is essential if you want to enjoy a greater image quality. Samsung has placed its bet on the HDR10 standard and its HDR10+ extension, which requires TVs to use a screen of at least 10 bits and reach brightness peaks of 1,000 nits. The difference between HDR10 and HDR10+ is truly significant.
The HLG format (Hybrid Log-Gamma) complements the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision standards, and is tailored to live television broadcasts. Samsung’s Q HDR 1000, Q HDR 1500 and Q HDR 2000 belong to the HDR10+ standard, with the final value corresponding to the maximum brightness possible.
The light intensity of both smart TV and smartphone screen is measured in nits. It is not part of the International System of Units, which is why it is little known. A nit is equal to one candle per square meter, indicating the luminous intensity per area unit. This means that a model with more nits will emit more light.
Nowadays, HDR films are produced with a minimum of 1,000 nits. This level of brightness can illuminate even the darkest scenes, and you can enjoy every little corner in detail. It also broadens the color spectrum, offering truly spectacular vivid tones. You are advised to opt for a smart TV with at least HDR 1000.
Connectivity and ports
As with most electronic equipment, it is important for you to consider the connectivity options when choosing your own smart TV. Start by checking which Internet connectivity options it offers: WiFi and/or LAN. You should also opt for a model with several HDMI inputs to connect Blu-Ray players, video game consoles, cable boxes and sound bars.
It is also interesting to have USB ports to connect flash drives or external hard disks. Two is the minimum you should go for, although three or more is ideal. And don’t forget about the Bluetooth connection, which can come in very handy. Basically, the more connections you have, the more you’ll be able to get out of your smart TV.
Opting for a Samsung smart TV is a guarantee that you’ll get a high-quality TV with optimal performance and a great operating system. You’ll also be able to access an incredible range of multimedia content with the different apps that come standard with the equipment. On top of this, the Smart Hub allows you to organize everything in one place.
However, remember that each Samsung TV is unique and designed for a specific type of user. This is why it is so important for you to consider the various criteria discussed above if you want to make the right decision. Aspects such as screen size and resolution, high dynamic range (HDR), and connectivity options are key.
